People Pedigrees - Our coast-to-coast leadership team

Nanette Levin, Owner, Halcyon Acres owner and East Coast liaison

Nanette is responsible for our East Coast operations, handling the Irish Sport Horse and Thoroughbred breeding facility and our training programs, focused primarily on starting young horses and reprogramming problem mounts. In addition, carefully selected dressage, eventing, hunting and show prospects are housed, ridden and polished at the farm for the benefit of both sellers and buyers. Check out our Special Horses for Sale page for some exciting potential mounts we’re currently working with.

Nanette also selects the mares for our Irish Draught and Irish Sport Horse breeding program. Her ability to identify horses with outstanding conformation, kind demeanors and gutsy attitudes has resulted in exquisite foals born at the farm. In most cases, she’s also able to ride prospective breeding stock over time to ascertain soundness issues (that may breed through) and temperament under saddle.

Thirty-seven years of riding experience makes for some pretty interesting stories and a varied riding and competitive background that includes fox hunting, the A shows, eventing up to the Preliminary Level, dressage, team penning and even a little bit of jockey thrown in at area hunt meet competitions on the turf. Nanette started her professional career teaching lessons and managing riding stables more than twenty years ago at stables in New York and Connecticut, which included preparing and coaching students in competition at area shows.

Today, she works with many young horses, starting them under saddle or fixing problems created in prior breaking experiences, exercises race horses and works with older horses, establishing dressage basics and, when appropriate, starting them over fences to ensure they have a fun and productive new career.

Nanette’s passion is to help mounts gain confidence in themselves and trust in the rider so that excelling at performance requests becomes an eagerly anticipated opportunity. At the same time, she’s determined to match horses with exquisite potential with the right riders. She’s honest and forthright and determined to ensure that every horse leaves Halcyon Acres with behavior attributes and performance potential that exceed the expectations of the existing or future owner.
